Unsalvageable

During a CNN story coverage of a young black honor student being beaten to death (complete with cam footage) on the streets of Chicago, a Chicago Police Detective whose own son, a kid with no gang affilliation who was killed by a streetgang, mentioned that this is the seventh kid killed in the last few weeks. All had nothing to do with streetgangs and most were good students. He described the kids who did the killing as "some are unsalvageable".

Attraction

I was at Hickman's Auction last Friday night in Camden. There is always a good crowd but this night there was an easy 200 people who attended or walked through. Quite a crowd and they draw a crowd every Friday night.

City Revitalization

I was the Chief Incentives Plans Negotiator for the United Steel Workers Union, Central Steel Division, United States Steel Corporation in the early to mid 1970s. I had to make many trips to Pittsburg in my job and watched what happened when steel manufacturing went downhill. Many support businesses went broke, unemployment shot skyhigh, the economy got so bad that it was wondered if they could keep the professional teams in the area, and the city was covered in a brownish orange dust.

Police and tattoos

The Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety has upheld the suspensions of two officers for violating the police chief's order concerning tattoos.

hmmmm.....just some interesting tidbits......

you all may already know this, but I didn't so.....

went to the mall today, how sad it is there, and noticed that the office was closed. asked one of the ladies who worked at the shop I was in what was happening w/that and found out they are not planning on hiring a new mall manager. I said that I could understand why since the past two of them have been caught pocketing money. but I was sad to hear her say that she didn't know if the mall would stay open and that it's up in the air. :o( and w/WalMart coming........

Recent Trip to Japan

I just finished reading the article in the Pharos Tribune on the most recent trip to Japan by Mayor Fincher and Skip Kuker. Although I agree that we need to market Logansport, Indiana globally, I'm beginning to wonder if we are putting to much stock in trying to land new businesses from the far east. Right now Japan's economy is just as unstable as ours. If you are following the Nikkei and Pacific Rim Stock exchanges you would see that. I realize that they were part of a delegation lead by Gov.

Elitists

We seem to have struck upon a theme on another thread that people want to discuss. So lets discuss it here. While the city of Logansport asks for volunteers it seems that those who are incharge of the activities are clanish and elitist. The point being that unless you were born here and have lived here all your life, you and your opinions are not considered as worthy as that of a "townie". That is an expression often used in New England to describe what I am talking about. You may call it "inner circles" if you want, same thing.

ISTEP

Is it just me or are you as shocked at the ISTEP scores by Logansport as compared to near school systems as I am? This stinks!!! Every school system near us beat Logansport scores in every field of study except Social Studies, we barely beat Caston. I would like to see a dollar outlay per student for the school systems because I am convinced we are being jipped and our kids are being shortchanged.

What we are becoming

Margo, I was as upset as you were when I hear a United States Representative scream at the President of the United States that he was lieing. Unbelievably crude and illmannered a thing for a representative of the people to call the highest elected representative of the American people. This and worse are now a part of American conversational speech.

Decensy and Common Respect

The South Carolina Republican Representative screaming "You lie" at the elected President of the United States during a Joint Meeting of Congress is exactly the decline of common respect and good manners I have been speaking about. He stated on his own political blog the night before that he would voice his opposition at the meeting and it seems all too convenient to me that the photographer knew to have his camera pointed at him at the exact second that he yelled the insult.
