Hastings throws his hat into the next mayoral race????I have been hearing the rumors that Charlie Hastings will be making a bid to become the next mayor of Logansport. I haven't given this rumor much thought....for several reasons, least of which is the obvious fact that Hastings is a Democrat. I was a little surprised, by what can be construed as an omission from Hastings during the past city council meeting. Todays Police BlotterI was scanning over the police blotter on line from the paper and saw to acts of criminal mischievious activity. Both acts occurred at Dykeman Golf Course. Both acts were damages done to greens. Now if anyone knows the layout of the golf course the 2 greens that were vandalized were 2 of the most secluded greens on the course. To repair these greens will take thousands of dollars and many man hours. The greens are the most expensive part of a golf course. On championship course greens cost in the hundreds on thousands to build and maintain.
Frivolous lawsuit or justified protection of free speech?A basis of the contemporary case-law on political sign regulation and free speech can be found in City of Ladue v. Gilleo, 512 U.S.
25 on the 25thWith the economy in the proverbial crapper, it is important to keep our eyes on the ball locally. On August 25th, everyone is asked to spend $25.00 at a local business. Even-though, I personally try to only spend money at local businesses, (meaning locally owned, locally operated, and a company that banks locally)I know that many people don't differentiate Local businesses from businesses that are local.
Am I a Curmudgeon or Responsible? Now, before everyone answers this question...I want you to know that it's purely rhetorical in nature. :) A few nights ago, I had an experience that left me feeling like the old jerky man on the block...(you know, the old mean man that was on every kid's block growing up.) Sixteen, is an important birthday in every teens life. I just never realized that it should include large signs in the yard that read, "HONK!!! I'm sixteen today!!!"
Racism Alive and Well?By now we have all had the pleasure of reading the various public forum letters proclaiming their stance on both sides of the Illegal’s vs. racism argument. I was hoping that this was a non-issue in this community. Furthermore, I was hoping that we , as a community, was better than this. Alas, We’re not, and I’m very much wrong.
Tommy GeeWhile working on a house on Banker's Row Friday, I got the most unexpected surprise. I was busy in the early afternoon finishing up some trim painting at the old Eckert mansion, and a faint voice broke my concentration. The words,"Hello, is anybody home?", lofted up the stairs to where I was working. I walked down the stairs to find an elderly gentleman standing on the porch, of which the front door was open so I could get some much needed fresh air. I proceeded to walk down the stairs and onto the front porch, where I asked the inevitable question, "may I help you?".
It's been 40 years since man first walked on the moon. Does the United States need a new challenge in space?

Support for the Fire Dept or Not.Let me start out by saying that I'm totally neutral in this. I don't want to see anyone lose their job, but on the other hand I see the Mayor's and City Council side. Keeping this community safe should be the number one priority of our elected officals. The Mayor and the City Council must also manage a budget. We the people of this city expect and demand that spending by the city government is kept to a certain amount. The state has given us so much money to use for public safety, parks and recreation, operating expenses and so forth.
