Bullying ~

I wish this program would have been in place when O was in middle school. I was happy to see that it doesn't just encompass shoving in the hallways and hitting, but also the exclusion of others, eye rolling, etc. Middle school can be such a tough time for kids. To feel they are not wanted because they aren't "popular" makes it just miserable. So bravo to LCSC for addressing this!! I pray it works.

Taking a Stand Against Bullying

I think this is an impressive first step in abating this issue.

If feel that each generation is becoming increasingly more desensitized than the one before. It is time to set the clock back and insist that our children become more kindly and reverent toward others.

I wish for the success of this program.

Everything should be fine until someones little darling gets suspended for being mean to the new girl. Then heads will inevitably roll. Hopefully when this happens, I hope the school corporation stands firm on their policy.

Never gonna happen...

How can you ever expect bullying to ever stop in the middle school - or any school - when the adults in this community shun anyone with any ideas different than their own. If we want the kids to have more positive behavior, then it begins with the parents. As soon as adults are more accepting of everyone regardless of skin color, financial status, or looks, then kids will continue to emulate them. Teachers make no qualms to the kids in the classroom who their favorites are whether or not they mean to and all the kids know it. The school officials pay attention to those in the community with some kind of clout and the others are kicked to the curb.

I am rolling my eyes to think that these sorts of programs can ever work. Kids learn by example. The adults in and out of the schools need to set a better one.

I agree w/you BTDT ~

that the parents are the ones who should be setting the example. But you will have to agree that there are kids out there who won't get this example at home, so maybe something like this will hit home and open their eyes a little bit. And I'm not sure about you and if you have kids or not, but sometimes the message is heard clearer when someone other than mom & dad speak it. Just an observation w/my own daughter. ;o)

You make excellent points.

You make excellent points. Why (and it seems to be especially prevalent in this community - the Logansport School Corporation) so much time is spent asking teachers to become surrogate parents is beyond me. I would like to see the LCSC get focused on education, not analyzing child behavior, renting facilities, bringing dogs into schools, focusing on having the finest athletic facilities, etc. Do the research. You will find school systens that focus on providing an environment that encourages and motivates learning skills, you will find lesser levels of behavioral problems; it doesn't eliminate the problem but it doesn't spent endless hours preaching to teachers that correcting a child's behavior is part of their job. The ISTEP scores over the past few years also support the lack of educational focus in the LCSC. Something needs to change but the current leadership takes care of the few and the others are left to slide even with the best efforts of concerned teachers to get them directed otherwise.
